My All-time Fav Festival

28th Jan 08

Just went Chinatown with my wallet, cellphone and my shadow. From 7pm - 8.40pm, wandered around, trying very hard to buy a CNY 'signage' to paste on my bedroom door.

After work, took MRT to Raffles Place, walked till Far East Sq. *What's new? As usual, brought $1.30 Ice Teh Tarak! And strolled towards Temple Street.

How I wish I'm staying here every CNY....

Enough daydream, walked into a building of 5 storeys, selling all China goods. Nothing to see, except lots of 'Chee-na' shirts, foods. Without further delay I went up to the 5th floor, showing all FengShui stuffs. *Eek! Prices there were sky-high. A 30-inch copper 'Smiling Buddha' cost $30.

Up next, I went over another exit of Chinatown MRT. Up the escalator, reaching 'Mei Zhen Hiang' ban gua shop. There I started my hunt for the signage. What I want in mind is a Golden Mickey Mouse sticker which I saw 2 weeks ago, but that's cost $6! Over my d*** body, I'll buy that. So now is to look for a cheaper one. Sad to say, I can't find u anywhere here.

Ok.. Another stretch, head-hunting for those shops filled with tons of CNY decor. One by one, they disappoint me. None of them sell that, not even the 'Chu Ru Ping An' with 5 mice picture is featured there.Dishearted, I carry on swim my way through. Wonder is it due to Monday or the demand is not there, I can see quite a couple of empty, breathing parking lot for human! Simply not that crowded as usual, can't feel the atmosphere at all.

For me, a 24 year old guy with a 16 year old soul *LoL!! was quite turn off with no one to squeeze with me! Very weird ba, but I simply love CNY!! Think none of my friends have the Time, the Mood, the Temper to walked along the long, squeezing streets at ChinaTown.

Along the road, as usual, the 'Waxed Meat', my fav preserved winter melon, coconut, carrot - All coated with sugar!! Suprise is that, those 'Guo Dong' and Mochi stalls were mostly deserted! Maybe it's not that 'IN' anymore. For me, I stopped eating those Mochi since last year. I felt they were overpriced, eat 3 in a row, they taste real awful. *Argh...

Another overly priced item is Bak Gua!!! A kg selling $42 (I think this is the cheaper price currently!!) Prices slashed our wallet like no body business!! Oil increase, 'pork oil' also increase sia... Think I this poor chap gotta taste Bak Gua at relatives' house!! *LoL!!

Walked pass the Buddhist temple (opposite Maxwell Market), show these lantern hanging people wishes for the new year. Saw many tourists taking photos with the figures outside the temple.

Well, looking at my watch, probably my groaning stomach is tell me it's time for home. Took out my ez-link card as I board the bus, looking out this year lighting along the streets.

Whatever, CNY - a season for real fun, extra income before you marry, good time to clear people's festival goodies, sure to have many occasion where u keep nodding to eldery without knowing what are they talking about, clocked more then 100 minutes staring at people's TV. Come to think of that 4 days to enjoy!! I'm gonna have fun!!

But... 3rd day of CNY, I gotta start work... Ok la leave you guys with this outlook for Year of Rat for my dear Rats buddies out there!

Rat

You can look forward to a good year and benefit from what is known as “heaven luck”, where many opportunities come your way. Wealth luck will be there and with the support of the ‘Tai Sui’ you will make the most of it. Although luck is on your side, you face competition from those who cannot take coming second to you. Don’t view this negatively; instead endeavour to turn competitors into supporters. Display a Pi Xie in the north to avoid troublemakers. The year starts well, with success coming as early as February with excellent relationship luck. To benefit from heaven luck, activate the north of your home with plenty of metal energy by hanging 8 Immortal coins. Activate good networking luck by displaying your allies and secret friend, the Dragon, Monkey and Ox in the north of your living room or on your work desk. There will be times when you are severely stressed out. Carry a Good Health Amulet if you are susceptible to high blood pressure.
